How It Works

Paradigm Shift International is a nonprofit building alternative economic infrastructure. Not lobbying to reform existing systems. Building parallel ones.

The reason is structural. When a handful of companies control the platforms people depend on, those companies decide who participates and on what terms. Economics As A Weapon documents what happens when that power gets exercised: payment processors can shut down legal organizations overnight, social platforms can reshape public discourse through algorithm changes, and financial networks can sever entire countries from the global economy. The architecture creates the vulnerability. PSI's approach is to build systems where no single entity holds that kind of switch. Here's how.

Identity: THRIVE

Everything starts with your THRIVE identity, short for The Human Real Identification Verification Experience. It's a verified digital identity that serves as your entry point to the PSI ecosystem.

Conventional digital identities exist primarily to track you. Your account on a social platform is a profile that advertisers bid on. Meta generated $164.5 billion in revenue in 2024, and 97% of it came from advertising, from selling access to your attention and behavioral data.[1] You are the product, and your identity is the inventory.

THRIVE identities work differently. They establish that you're a unique, verified human being while protecting your autonomy over what you disclose and to whom. Initially, PSI manages these identities custodially for simplicity. As the community grows, non-custodial options will let members control their own identity data directly.

The Social Contract

When you create your THRIVE identity, you sign The Social Contract. Version 0.0.1 has two rules:

  1. No nazi punks allowed.
  2. All THRIVE members will receive a daily stipend of MUNNY.

Rule one exists because tolerance requires boundaries. Any community that extends unlimited tolerance to those working to destroy tolerance will eventually be destroyed by them. This rule draws the line.

Rule two is the economic foundation: the community's value flows back to its members.

The contract is a living document. As the community evolves, members shape its terms through governance. The Social Contract, Explained covers the philosophical foundation, specifically why explicit agreements you actually sign beat implicit ones you never consented to.

Masques: Contextual Identity

Your THRIVE identity produces different Masques for different contexts. Think of them as facets of your verified identity, each revealing a different amount of information depending on the situation.

Your Real ID Masque connects your name and verified credentials to your actions. Use it for professional networking, connecting with friends and family, or any context where people need to know who they're dealing with.

Your Public Persona Masque still shows your name but separates your public activity from your private life. A musician, a local politician, a content creator, anyone who maintains a public presence can engage publicly without exposing their private connections and activity.

Your THRIVE Masque lets you participate under a persistent pseudonym that cryptographic verification confirms belongs to a real, unique person. You can contribute to sensitive discussions, post honest reviews, or explore communities without attaching your legal name. Nobody can create fake accounts to manipulate the conversation, because every THRIVE Masque maps to exactly one verified human.

The internet has forced a bad choice for decades: either identify yourself fully or operate in anonymous spaces overrun by bots and bad actors. Masques solve both problems at once. You prove your humanity without necessarily revealing your identity.

BRIJ: The Platform

PSI has built BRIJ, the app where all of this comes together, through its technology partner Trust Me Bro, Inc. Social features, cryptocurrency wallet, marketplace, media, and governance in a single interface.

The difference from conventional platforms is the business model. The average American Facebook user generates roughly $270 per year for Meta, not by paying for anything, but by being the product that advertisers purchase access to. BRIJ doesn't sell your data or your attention. The platform exists to serve its members, not to monetize them.

Within BRIJ, mini-apps handle specific functions: professional networking, content sharing, marketplace transactions, community discussion. You scroll a feed of local creators and businesses, find a shop that accepts MUNNY, buy something, and leave a verified-purchase review. Discovery, content, commerce, and reputation in one place under one identity. Your Masques carry across every mini-app. Your MUNNY spends across every mini-app. One ecosystem instead of a scattered collection of platforms each extracting their own cut.

MUNNY: The Economic Foundation

Every THRIVE member receives a daily stipend of MUNNY, a cryptocurrency token built on the Cardano blockchain. For the technical foundations of how distributed ledgers and cryptocurrency work, see DLT vs Blockchain vs Cryptocurrency.

This is membership in a nonprofit community, and membership has economic benefits. Your attention and participation have value. MUNNY is how that value comes back to you instead of flowing to shareholders.

As the network grows, businesses accept MUNNY for goods and services, creating economic circulation. Traditional currencies enter the economy through lending institutions that favor those who already have wealth — a pattern with deep roots. New MUNNY enters from the bottom, distributed equally to every member, every day. That doesn't prevent concentration through successful commerce, nor should it. But the floor keeps rising, and the rules are set by participants rather than institutions.

The Future Is Branded MUNNY explores what happens when you can choose which monetary system to participate in — and why that choice carries meaning. MUNNY is one where the rules are transparent, distribution starts at the bottom, and participants decide how it evolves.

What Comes Next

BRIJ is in early access. The architecture described here is real, but the platform is young. The governance model for evolving the social contract is still being defined. Some of what's described here works today; some of it is being built.

What won't change is the structural commitment: no single entity controls the off-switch. That's not a feature. It's the foundation everything else is built on. If that matters to you, it's early enough that your participation shapes what it becomes.
